Halloween 2012 is the first holiday event to occur in Guild Wars 2. The Shadow of the Mad King follows the events of the return of the Mad King and will run the length of the event. The update including Halloween-themed content from exciting new jumping puzzles to spooky recipes. The event runs from October 22nd until November 1st. A special teaser was released, showing a decorated Lion's Arch.

Halloween comes just once a year; it's an evening of fun, there's nothing to fear.

Children dress up in spooky disguises and trick or treat for Halloween prizes.

But there are whispers of warning in the crisp autumn air: "the Mad King will return, so you better beware!"

Don't listen to fools and the stories they tell; Mad King Thorn isn't real, you know very well.

So come, walk awhile in the pale moonlight; discover what waits in the dark of night.

Halloween is here! The people of Lion’s Arch and beyond have begun celebrating the week-long holiday with candy, costumes, decorations, and of course, the traditional jokesters dressed up in Mad King garb. Despite the festivities and fun, there are a vocal few who claim that Mad King Thorn will return on the 500th anniversary of his death.

Brand New Events – The scholars of the Durmand Priory are concerned by odd energy fluctuations and eerie Halloween phenomena. Help them delve into the history and mystery of the Mad King in a series of all-new events.

Haunted Doors – What’s the secret of the strange doors that have appeared across Tyria? If you’ve got the nerve, knock on one of these Halloween portals and see what answers.

Act II

Act II tasks players with locating Mad Memoires: Complete Edition. Lunatic Courtiers appear in Queensdale, Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields, and players participate in Halloween-themed meta events. Players may also enter Haunted Doors with pumpkin icons above the door to enter the Mad King's Realm, including access to the Mad King's Clock Tower, the Mad King's Labyrinth explorable area, and the two new mini-games: Reaper's Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition. Act II was released on October 26.

Act III

Act III introduces the Ascent to Madness, an instanced boss fight against Mad King Thorn, the entrance to which is accessible in Lion's Arch. The opening cinematic was a one-time occurrence, but videos of it have appeared on YouTube. The Mad King was seen in the days following the opening cinematic, still attempting to break through the hole he created in Lion's Arch. A full party of five is recommended to enter the dungeon.

Act IV

Act 4 introduces the Attend the Party event in Lion's Arch and removes access to the Ascent to Madness dungeon. This act will begin on October 31st at 16:00 UTC, running until at least November 1 19:00 UTC. .

Kill Halloween monsters spawning from Haunted Doors, Halloween Events or in the Mad King's Realm.

Complete special Halloween events in Queensdale, Kessex Hills, Gendarran Fields, or the Mad King's Realm.

Explore the Mad King's Labyrinth, exiting Reaper's Rumble, Mad King's Clock Tower and Ascent to Madness.

Attend the Party

Visit Lion's Arch during Act IV.
