Walkthrough

Meet Trahearne in Fort Trinity and get treated to one of his many inspiring speeches. Afterwards, he pulls you aside to a secluded corner, saying he wants you to meet someone privately. Sayeh al'Rajihd appears and Trahearne briefs you on the next mission: exploring a lost temple dedicated to Abaddon, the dead God of Secrets. Exit the instance and travel to the temple. IMPORTANT: If Sayeh al'Rajihd dies at any point, you must resurrect her, and you will need to make sure you stay alive in the process, so experiment with the different tools in the place depending on condition, such as using the Cudgel's Knockback to buy time against the Risen Shark.

The mission takes place in the Cathedral of Hidden Depths, a sunken temple of Abaddon now occupied by Risen. Much of the area takes place underwater and in close quarters, so prepare appropriately. Enemies hit hard if they catch you unaware, but fortunately, Sayeh is remarkably tough and can withstand multiple enemies on her own. There are also a variety of useful environmental weapons scattered around the mission, sometimes inside of Orrian Chests. Of particular note, the quest marker is remarkably unhelpful in this mission due to the small area/levels/walls, and it's difficult to describe in text exactly where to go. You start in the submerged portion of the temple, eventually working your way up to the ground portion.

Upon arrival, you find that the Risen have beaten you to the temple. You will see a large hole in the ceiling leading to the next area, but the doors are closed. After defeating the group of Risen and the Risen Crab that spawn, head through the door directly in front of you. You will come upon a glowing Temple Orb and an Abaddon Shrine. After clearing the room, interact with the altar. This spawns a Devoted of the Deeps for you to defeat; it doesn't hit very hard except for Chaos Storm. After defeating it, it will turn to an ally, bow, and leave behind an Illusory Essence at the altar. Pick it up and place it on the temple orb.

After placing the Illusory Essence, a cutscene plays. The cinematic shows you the path to a now unlocked door. Head back to the starting area and swim up through the large hole in the ceiling. A group of three Risen will attack you from the now open door visible after you swim up through the hole. Head through and you will arrive at a chamber with orb and altar puzzle. Take a right past the temple orb down a corridor with Risen Mines, take them out with ranged attacks. Clear the room and activate the shrine, you will now face a Devoted of Illusions. Defeat him and place the Illusory Essence on the temple orb. You will be ambushed by a few Risen along the way back to the orb, some of which are the toughest in this dungeon and quite buggy and require use of the tools in the room. The Illusory Essence has some decently powerful skills to help ward them off.

This time, there is no cutscene to show you where to go next. You might find yourself apparently stuck in a room with a circular ramp above water and unable to jump up, the cause of much frustration with this dungeon. This is because you went too far. Go back and look in the central area, swimming along the upper walls. Compared to the other passages you have seen, the next passage is a much smaller open opening to the Southwest half obscured by some giant glowing purple barnacles. You'll know it's the correct one when some enemies come out on ground level; defeat them. Head through, and you will end up on the ground level of the temple; all combat from here on will be out of the water. You will see the shrine sitting on some scaffolding. Defeat the Devoted of Nightmares, it will use Chaos Storm often and inflict Fear, so bringing condition removal is a good idea. Bring the Illusory Essence to the temple orb is farther down the corridor. You will be again ambushed by a group of Risen at the temple orb. This will open a nearby door, follow the metal walkway into the next room.

You have reached the ground portion of the temple. The pool of water leads to the submerged portion you have been exploring up to this point. Take care not to fall in the water or you will have to go back around to get up. Defeat the two Risen at the top of the ramp and the Rotmouth Sucker that spawns. Head up the ramp into the next room. In this room, there are two shrines and orbs for you to complete. The Devoted of Secrets is a ranger and uses a shortbow, it will shadowstep, evade, blind, and poison you. The Devoted of Lies is a mesmer similar to the previous Devoted. Defeat them and place the Illusory Essence on the temple orbs. This will open the door to the final area. Head up the ramps to the next room, where the Altar of Secrets awaits.

When you reach the altar, three powerful Risen are already there: a Mouth of Zhaitan, an Eye of Zhaitan, and Risen General Azuldin. A cutscene plays and you must defeat Azuldin. He wields a greatsword, moves slowly and doesn't hit particularly hard. He uses a charge attack that smashes the ground (with a greatsword) and an uppercut attack, both attacks are easy to dodge. He will occasionally spawn five Gravespawn Grubs. He will causes the room to shake, sending bits of the ceiling crashing down. Once his health reaches 25% health, he will gain permanent might, swiftness, fury, and protection. After he is defeated, Zhaitan roars in fear, breaking the foundations of the temple and causing it to collapse. Escape through the hole; the room is conveniently located above the pool of water in the central area. Talk to Sayeh for a cutscene.

Head back to Fort Trinity and report to Trahearne to end the mission. You are asked to decide on the next course of action: ambushing the Eye or attacking it head-on.

Part 1 - Fort Trinity

At Fort Trinity

Pact Scout salutes Kierra.
Pact Scout salutes Kierra.
Trahearne: For too long, Tyria has suffered. We gather now, in this fortress, with newfound purpose and unity.
Trahearne: Zhaitan's servants storm our homelands. It is time to bring the battle back to Orr.
Trahearne: This tide will wash over Arah and cleanse the dragon's corruption!
Trahearne: We stand against Zhaitan together — charr and human, Priory and Vigil, all races and all paths of life. Together, we will prevail!
Trahearne: Let the ships sail! Let the troops march! And let us find&mfash;victory!
Wynnet Fairhaired: A stirring speech, Trahearne.
Warmaster Efut: Absolutely. You've turned into a real warleader, Marshal.
Doern Valezquez: Now if we can just keep the impetus you started, then we'll have a chance.
Trahearne: Thank you, friends. May fortune bless you.
Trahearne: Good to see you. Let's get this briefing underway.

If fear was Letting an innocent die

Trahearne: I wanted to talk about Tonn's widow, Ceera. I understand she was inconsolable.
Trahearne: Grief does terrible things to people. But this is war, and war manufactures grief.
Trahearne: Tonn joind the Pact with open eyes. He chose a dangerous profession. He knew the risks, and accepted them.
Trahearne: Ceera may never forgive you...or me, but in time she will see: Tonn's sacrifice helped save thousands, maybe millions, of lives.
Trahearne: He chose to die a hero. And the heroes of this war will be remembered and honored forever.

If fear was Dishonored by allies

Trahearne: Commander? I want to follow up with you about the Syska incident.
Trahearne: I've made my share of mistakes, even without mesmer trickery. Some things cannot be undone...but they can be mitigated.
Trahearne: Warmaster Caisson has been fully briefed, and her entire unit is aware of how you were all misled.
Trahearne: That won't bring back their comrades, but knowing the truly guilty party was punished does soften the blow.

If fear was Making another suffer

Trahearne: May I have a word, Commander? I know you think you failed Apatia, but I've experienced that kind of failure, and this isn't it.
Trahearne: Every decision I make as Marshal of the Pact means people die. That's
Trahearne: the burden I've been called the carry.
Trahearne: Apatia was a norn, and we gave her a proper norn send-off. She lived and died a hero, and now her legend goes on.
Trahearne: So must we, Apatia gave her life to defeat Zhaitan. The best way to honor her is to see that task completed.

All fears

Trahearne: There's someone I'd like you to meet.
Trahearne: Our visitor may cause alarm, so privacy is paramount.
Trahearne: Sayeh, it's now safe to reveal yourself.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Greetings, Marshal Trahearne. As you've requested, I've come to honor my oath.
Trahearne: Excellent. Let's speak with the commaander and give you an assignment.

Meeting Sayeh, if fear was Making another suffer

Trahearne: Thank you for your patience, Commander. Allow me to introduce the revered Sayeh al'Rajihd.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: No need. We are already acquainted. In the name of the Concordat of the Tethyos Houses, I greet you with respect.
<Character name>: I'm glad to see you again, Sayeh. May your steps be relentless.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: As I mentioned, I have long owed Trahearne. Now, he has called upon me to honor my oath.
Trahearne: Scouts have discovered a sixth temple in Orr - a lost shrine to a fallen god, hidden underwater in the Strait of Malediction.
Trahearne: Abbadon[sic], the human god of secrets, was cast out of Arah by the other deities, and his name was erased from history. Very little remained.
Trahearne: Zhaitan craves something inside that temple, so we must get there first. Sayeh will accompany you as a guide.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: It will be dangerous. You will need all your skills to travel with me.
<Character name>: I have yet to meet anything I couldn't overcome.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: As I remember. I look forward to this, Commander. Until then, may your steps be relentless.

Meeting Sayeh, otherwise

Trahearne: Thank you for your patience, Commander. Allow me to introduce the revered Sayeh al'Rajihd.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: In the name of the Concordat of the Tethyos Houses, I greet you, ally of my ally.
<Character name>: It's an honor, Sayeh. I've heard that your people don't meet with land-dwellers.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: You speak truth. I have long owed Trahearne. Now, at last, he has called upon me to honor my oath.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Tell me, Commander, can you fight? Is your oath made of steel? You'll need all your skills to travel with me.
<Character name>: I have yet to meet anything I couldn't overcome.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Intriguing. I look foward to this, Commander. Until then, may your steps be relentless.

Talking to Trahearne

if fear was Letting an innocent die:
Regarding Tonn's death, his widow Ceera refused to take a leave of absence until her current tour is complete. She may hate us, but she understands how important the Pact's mission is.
Talk more option tango.png
I just hope she doesn't do anything elset[sic] to endanger herself.
if fear was Dishonored by allies:
With regards to the mesmer we exposed, I'm afraid there's still canfusion regarding what did and did not happen. Rest assured, I'm working hard to get the truth disseminated.
Talk more option tango.png
Thank you, Marshal.
all fears:
Regarding your current mission, the temple we seek shouldn't be difficult to find. The ruins lie within the Strait of Malediction.
Talk more option tango.png
I understand. I have more questions about the mission, however.
Of course. What do you need to know?
Talk more option tango.png
How do you know Sayeh al' Rajihd?
We met on the seas outside Orr. We both had...difficulties to overcome, and we were able to join forces to do so. When it was over, she declared herself in my debt.
Talk more option tango.png
That's vague. Can you give me more details?
I'd rather not. At least, not now. Sayeh considers it a private matter, and I agreed to keep her trust.
Talk more option tango.png
Tell me more about the temple.
It was ancient even before Orr sank. The god Abbadon made war on the other gods, and lost. His temple was cast down to the depths as a result. Even in ruins, it's still a place of power.
Talk more option tango.png
What's the mission?
You and Sayeh are to investigate the Temple of Abbadon and discover why Zhaitan's minions have displayed such a keen interest in it. I suspect they're seeking something powerful.
Talk end option tango.png
That's all I needed to know.
Talk end option tango.png
I'm ready to go.
Talk end option tango.png
I need a moment before we continue.

Talking to Sayeh

Now Commander, we shall see if you can take direction as well as give orders. And if you can keep up.
Talk more option tango.png
I have a question before we start.
You may ask. I may answer.
Talk more option tango.png
What's your connection to Trahearne?
That is between he and I. I live according to the dictates of the Tethyos Compact, with honor and without mercy. My presence here is in service of those dictates.
Talk more option tango.png
What is the Tethyos Compact?
The ruling houses of the largos convened and agreed upon a set of principles to guide our people. This is all I care to share with you. Be glad I've said this much.
Talk end option tango.png
Very well. I'll meet you at the temple.
Talk end option tango.png
I'm ready to go now. I'll meet you at the temple.
Talk more option tango.png
Tell me more about the temple.
A wretched place. There are mysteries within that normally would appeal to me, but pursuing them has never had a clear benefit...until now.
Talk end option tango.png
I'm ready to go now. I'll meet you at the temple.
Talk more option tango.png
I need to know I can trust you. Are you planning to hunt me?
That would be a distinctive honor, but no. You are a part of this mission to the temple, and as long as I am beholden to Trahearne, that mission is my top priority.
Talk end option tango.png
Fine, I'll won't[sic] worry until after the mission.
Talk end option tango.png
That's all for now. I'll meet you at the temple.
Talk end option tango.png
You won't have to wait for me. Let's go.

Part 2 - Temple of Abbadon

After meeting Sayeh al'Rajihd at the temple

Sayeh al'Rajihd: I am here, Commander. Let us discuss the temple.

Cinematic

Sayeh al'Rajihd: In the name of the Concordat, I greet you, Commander. The way ahead is dark and uncompromising.
<Character name>: Exactly what I'd expect from the ancient temple of a dead god.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Yes, of course. The Risen have already bypassed the wards and breached the temple. We must exterminate them.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Be warned. There are dangers here not of the dragon. Powers ancient and unseen still occupy these halls.

After cinematic

Sayeh al'Rajihd: Lead, Commander. I will follow

Exploring the temple

Sayeh al'Rajihd: The Risen. Raise your weapon and fight.

After Risen are defeated

Sayeh al'Rajihd: The Risen have reactivated the temple defenses. It may slow us down.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: However, they did find the altar. We can do the same.

At first Abaddon Shrine

Sayeh al'Rajihd: A most interesting shrine. What is its purpose?

Activating the shrine

Sayeh al'Rajihd: There, by the shrine—that might be it.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: You should test such a theory with that essence. See if it can be placed somewhere useful.

Bringing the first Illusionary Essence to its Orrian Orb.

Sayeh al'Rajihd: Look. The currents shift. The ocean's flow changes.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: These shrines and orbs must be how we gain entry.

Activating second Abadodn Shrine

Devoted of Illusions bows to <Character name>.

Defeating Devoted of Illusions

Bringing the final two Illusionary Essences to their Orrian Orbs.

Sayeh al'Rajihd: The altar should be in the next chamber. Be cautious.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Something's wrong. We must be swift.

Entering the Altar of Secrets

Eye of Zhaitan: Intruders! You trespass on the dragon's lands. You, too, will serve Zhaitan.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: No, slave-creature. We serve our oaths, and those oaths demand your death.
Eye of Zhaitan: So be it. To death—and beyond.
Risen General Azuldin: Zhaitan demands your death.
Risen General Azuldin points at <Character name>.

During the fight with Azuldin

Risen General Azuldin: Submit to the dragon.
Risen General Azuldin: Stupid creature. Die, and the dragon will take you.
Risen General Azuldin: No, no, no! The dragon is angry!

After defeating Azuldin

Sayeh al'Rajihd: The dragon roars in fear! These ancient foundations will not withstand the sound.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: Escape, quickly, before we are buried forever.

Cinematic at temple entrance

Sayeh al'Rajihd: Well fought and well won. Most impressive, my ally.
<Character name>: It was victory, but we lost the artifact.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: True, but we've made the dragon know fear. That, Commander, is a victory to relish.
<Character name>: Maybe we can still salvage this. What do you know about that creature we faced?
Sayeh al'Rajihd: I do not know for certain. What is certain is that you've just encountered two of Zhaitan's most powerful servants, and that they escaped your grasp.
<Character name>: Not for long. I'm reporting to Trahearne right away. We'll see if we can't organise a pursuit.
Sayeh al'Rajihd: I will also carry this news when I return to be freed from my oath. May your steps be relentless, hunter.

After cinematic

Sayeh al'Rajihd: Be relentless, Commander. I shall carry word to Trahearne.

Part 3 - Back in Fort Trinity

Returning to Fort Trinity

Pact Scout salutes <character name>.
Pact Scout salutes <character name>.
Trahearne: Excuse me, friends, but I must speak to the commander.
Trahearne: I'll send for the rest of you soon. Thank you.

Talking to Trahearne

Sayeh has already reported in. I'd like to hear your account, however.
Talk quest option tango.png
We came up short, but we saw two remarkable creatures.
Yes, an Eye and a Mouth. The Eye concerns me more. It always precedes an attack by Zhaitan's horde, so it must become our new priority.
Talk quest option tango.png
Agreed. How do we go about finding and killing it?
I have two possible avenues: either we lure the Eye in with irresistible bait, or we comb its territory until we find it. Either way, once we locate it, we destroy it.
Talk more option tango.png
Tell me more about the ambush.
We have an enchanted Orrian mirror that should draw the Eye's attention. When it appears, we confront it and kill it.
Talk quest choice tango.png
That sounds promising. I'll do it.
Very good. I'll put together a squad and meet you at Blighted Battleground. I've got some special allies waiting to join us.
Talk quest option tango.png
I'll see all of you there.
Talk more option tango.png
Tell me more about the direct attack.
We flood the Eye's territory with scouts and soldiers. As soon as we acquire reliable information about its location, we storm its position and kill it.
Talk quest choice tango.png
I like a direct approach. Let's do it.
Very good. I'll put together a squad and meet you north of Blighted Battleground. I've got some special allies waiting to join us.
Talk quest option tango.png
I'll see all of you there.
Talk end option tango.png
I need a moment to think.
Talk end option tango.png
Excuse me for a moment, please.
Talk end option tango.png
Give me a moment to collect my thoughts.

If you talk to Trahearne again before choosing an option

I'm standing by to brief you on your options. Whenever you're ready.
Talk quest option tango.png
I'm ready now. (goes to above: Agreed. How do we go about finding and killing it?)
Talk end option tango.png
Not just yet.

If you talk to Trahearne again after choosing the ambush option

I'll have troops standing by at Blighted Battleground, Commander. They'll help us prepare the trap for the Eye of Zhaitan. I'll meet you there.
Talk end option tango.png
Until then, Marshal.

If you talk to Trahearne again after choosing the direct option

I'll have a squad ready and we'll meet you north of Orr's Blighted Battleground. We'll flush out the Eye and bring it down.
Talk end option tango.png
See you there.

My Story

Файл:Temple of the Forgotten God.jpg

The largos, Sayeh al' Rahjid. swore to honor a mysterious oath she made to Trahearne in the past. Acting on her information, we decided I would join her in investigating a sunken temple off Orr's coast.

We arrived too late to stop Zhaitan's servants from claiming a powerful artifact, but we killed one of the dragon's lieutenants and collected some valuable information. The creatures we saw seem connected to Zhaitan itself and also seem to be acting on its top priorities. Sayeh and I returned to Trahearne to figure out how to use this new intelligence.

I reported back to Fort Trinity to tell Trahearne about the strange eye and mouth creatures we saw. Trahearne seemed to recognize the eye as the Eye of Zhaitan, which was acting as the dragon's advance scout. We set out to kill this creature in the hopes of blinding Zhaitan's war effort.

Notes

  • As with all underwater areas, using knockback skills, such as Ancient Cudgels found in this area, can cause enemies to go through the walls. This forces players to use non-projectile skills or melee attacks.
  • Swapping weapons while holding one of the orbs (or using any other skill to that effect) might make the orb disappear, thus blocking progress on the rest of the mission. It's advisable to only pick up the orb after every enemy has been dispatched.
  • Sometimes you cannot interact with the first Abaddon Shrine, halting any progress. You will notice this when Sayeh does not say "The Risen have reactivated the temple defenses." after the first part. If this happens, you will need to restart the mission. Waiting a short bit of time before killing the first three Risen and Orrian Crab may prevent this glitch and trigger Sayeh's dialogue regarding temple defenses.
  • Some of the mobs are elite and some aren't.
  • Some of the mobs reset at less than half health.
